For the last four years, we’ve been selling our field-fresh flowers at the Texarkana Farmers Market. And over the years, I’ve started to notice a pattern—there are usually the same 3–4 questions that come up again and again from customers and people who stop by to chat with us.
Since the weather is currently very hot and our flowers are taking a little break and slipping into a stressed state of dormancy, I thought it would be the perfect time to answer some of those frequently asked questions.
One of the questions we get asked most often is:
“Can people come out to your farm and pick flowers?”
The short answer is not currently—but that is the plan!
We’ve already cleared a couple of acres with a future U-pick in mind. This next year will be a lot of research, planning, and getting our ducks in a row so we can hopefully make it happen.
It turns out there is A LOT that goes into inviting people out to a farm to pick flowers. Things like:
Liability insurance
Signage
Parking
Restrooms
Shade—which thankfully is one thing we’ve got plenty of!
An on-site farm shop
Irrigation for the new field
And I’m sure plenty of things I haven’t even thought of yet!
All that to say, it’s going to be a process. But I’m excited about the possibility because I really do think there’s a need for it in our area.
So, will you be ready to come pick your own flowers when we finally open the gates?
I sure hope so!
